Chapters 15, 16, 17Martin and Gracia have constantly been learning and adapting throughout their time in captivity. They’ve learned to flex (when to share their one tooth brush and when not to), when to give up dreams (discarding jeans that no longer fit and take up too much space and energy to carry) and how to interact with the different people in their lives. I really admire their learners’ hearts. They didn’t stay stuck—they kept on learning even in such trying circumstances.
This week—would you please share lessons you’ve learned through trials or difficult circumstances?
How has something hard produced something good in your life through the lessons you learned?

I think one of the lessons I learned during a hard time was that unforgiveness only hurts me. If I allow my anger and hurt to control me then God is not glorified. I am the one left in pain that will only turn to bitterness unless I allow the Lord to help me forgive. The Lord used a time of deep disappointment and hurt to help me learn this. It was a hard lesson, but so worth it. A relationship was restored and I learned how to work through my hurts in a more positive way.
You are right, Lynn. Unforgiveness is so powerful and has the potential to really hurt us. I'm glad the Lord has redeemed something so hard in your life to teach you how to work through those hard things His way--the more positive way.
I will be traveling the next few weeks and will not be able to read your comments--but I will when I get home. Blessings to you, Lynn. Thank you for sharing this book with me!
